During widespread outages our goal is to safely restore power to the most customers in the shortest amount of time.

The first step is to assess damage and find out what facilities and equipment need repairing. This helps us determine required materials, assign crews and set estimated restoration times.

Next, we focus our efforts on essential services such as hospitals, emergency response agencies, public utilities and community shelters. We repair the largest outages first; residential customers are given priority over business and industrial customers. Then, once the largest outages are mostly restored, work crews move on to other affected areas while some personnel remain behind to complete other necessary parts of the restoration.

There are three easy ways to stay connected with us and get updates on specific outages:

  3. I can’t believe the number of power outages that we have experienced since we moved to Kirby Road 8 years ago. It seems like if the power isn’t off due to weather, AEP is turning it off for some reason. We are currently looking to move from this area for that reason. No wonder 80% of the homes in this neighborhood have whole home generators!

    1. Hi Rob. I’m very disappointed to hear about this. If you give us a call or send us a note on Facebook or Twitter and give us your address, we can take a closer look at this issue. I’m so sorry about the inconvenience this may have caused you.

  4. I’ve lived in Coshocton for a little over 2 years and my electric gas gone out at least 10 times. I’m sitting here as I type with the power off. I just would like to know why the power lines in our area are so low there are spots I can almost reach and touch them. Definitely could if I was in a pickup truck bed. Doesn’t seem safe.

    1. Hi Vincent. Great question. Sometimes it takes longer to complete power restoration because additional damages that are discovered after an estimate restoration time is provided. We know it’s frustrating to be without power, but please know that our crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore your power.

      1. AEP service once gave estimated time of restoration. Power has been off for nearly 24 hours, which in addition to limitations of bathing, cooking … we must throw out most food in frig. Oh, file home owners ins claim, how long do you save grocery store receipts? Even a 6 hour window would be nice, no estimate is unacceptable.

  5. To all the people coming here and just out right asking, “when will my power be back?”. You’re the reason people hate customer service. Don’t touch another comment box until after you’ve gone and gotten a better education. -sincerely, every rep. That had to pretend like your comment was worth responding too.

  6. Is the power company willing to issue checks to those of us who house and provide care DODD individuals that live in our homes for the loss of food and medicine

    1. Hello Providers,

We understand how difficult this situation can be. However, AEP Ohio is not legally responsible for damages caused by natural occurrences like storms or normal equipment failures. Your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance may cover these losses. We recommend checking with your insurance agent. If you believe AEP Ohio caused another type of loss that you should be compensated for, please file a claim.
