If you’re struggling to pay your electric bill, we have options available. Our Neighbor to Neighbor Program offers up to $350 in bill assistance and might be the option to get you and your family back on your feet. The process is simple to find out if you’re qualified. 

Households may be eligible for grants if:

  • They are behind on bill payment more than 30 days.
  • Income is less than 300% of the federal poverty level guidelines due to job loss.
  • They are a customer of AEP Ohio.

If you need assistance, applications are available online or in-person at your local community agency. You’ll need a photo ID, your most recent utility bill and proof of income or COVID-19 financial hardship, such as an unemployment filing notice or proof of unemployment benefits. 

Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis until funding is depleted.

Administered by Dollar Energy Fund, the program provides eligible customers with a utility assistance grant applied directly to their AEP Ohio bill. This grant helps limited-income customers maintain their basic electric service when behind more than 30 days on their electric bill. The Neighbor to Neighbor Program has distributed more than $14.6 million in grants to more than 61,000 customers since May 2009.

  1. I’d like to have help paying $750.00 to have a tree removed from my property that AEP cut down and left in my yard that I had told them before they did it, they could cut it if they cleaned it all up because I am disabled and was unable to do it. Left a horrible mess for snakes in my yard.
