  1. Hi….. I want to turn off my water heater during peak times….. Can you help with that?

Also, I have an electric car. Can I get a rebate for using it?

    1. Hey Scott. Unfortunately, we don’t have offerings for the issues you mention. These are ideas we are exploring but they aren’t available yet. Stay tuned.

  2. AEP crew installed large screws at the bottom of the pole that holds my transformer. What is this for? I am conserned that this pole is compromised.

    1. Hi Terry. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We are looking into it now. We may have someone reach out to you very soon to follow up.

      1. I Attempted to get my refrigerator picked up and was told that AEP was not providing this service anymore but I read on this FAQ that you still offer pickup.
How can I get this service scheduled?

        1. Hi Darren, We are so sorry. That is an article from 2018. We no longer offer the appliance recycling program. Best, AEP Ohio

    1. Hi Carrie. Thanks for reaching out. We do not currently have appliance rebates available. All of our energy efficiency programs ended as of September 30, 2020.

  3. I have a 4 year old fridge that no longer works,
Do you have a recycling program.
The fridge went out on the 16th of this month.
We are long time customers of AEP.

    1. Hi Steve. I apologize, we no longer have an appliance recycling program. The program was discontinued in September 2020.

  4. Does AEP have rebates in 2021 on new AC? Columbia Gas still has rebates for furnace. Thank you, Catherine

  5. Does AEP offer off peak hour pricing? I would charge my electric vehicle during those hours only if the rate was cheaper than peak hours.

    1. Hello Timothy. Great question. Yes, we recently received approval by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to offer a new “PEV Tariff”. It provides a lower distribution rate for charging off-peak (8pm-6am). Customers can choose to have their whole home on the rate or install a new meter for the EV load only. More information can be found on page 139 of our list of tariffs (https://www.aepohio.com/lib/docs/ratesandtariffs/Ohio/February2022_AEP_OhioTariff.pdf).

  6. Hello,
I would like to take advantage of off-peak EV charging. The response statement above states that “off peak begins at 8:00pm, and end at 6:00”. Is that true? Also, may I get a further understanding of this statement: “Customers can choose to have their whole home on the rate or install a new meter for the EV load only” Thank you.

    1. Hi Eric. Sorry for the delay — I was checking on this for you. AEP Ohio’s new PEV tariff is available for customers. For residential customers, you have the option to have the whole home meter placed on the PEV rate or have a separate meter installed for your plug-in electric vehicle only. Also, you are correct that the on-peak hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you have any more questions you can post them here, on Facebook/Twitter or email OhioEVCharging@aep.com.

    1. Hi Debra. We do offer a budget plan if you have lived in your residence for 12+ months. The budget plan makes your bill the same price 11 months out of the year, and in the 12th month, the balance due could be higher or lower to settle up on any credit or unpaid balance. Many customers find our average monthly payment plan (also called AMP) to be a easier arrangement. The AMP plan may vary slightly month to month, but there is no settle up month. You can enroll in AMP at AEPOhio.com/AMP or by calling 800-672-2231.

  7. I see you’ve mentioned a thing such as unplugging electronics whenever they aren’t used – that’s great. After all, plugged chargers and electrical appliances account for 37% of the energy consumed. It’s crazy.

  8. After I started using the pool in my backyard, my electricity bills increased by about 20%. Is it possible to reduce energy consumption during pool maintenance?

    1. I apologize, Lori, but we do not. I also checked out AEPOhioMarketplace.com but it appears windows are not for sale on the site. Sorry for any confusion.

  9. Hello, do AEP residential customers currently pay less for electricity used during off-peak hours, or do customers need to sign-up for that? Is a different meter required? If there are different rates why is that reflected on the monthly bill?

    1. Hi Charles. AEP offer does not offer different rates for off-peak hours. Thanks for your question — have a nice day.

  10. I am trying to determine if AEP Ohio offers any commercial rebates or incentives for upgrading energy efficiency – specifically, for converting outdated lighting systems to LED technology. I am aware that AEP Ohio offered incentives several years ago, but I cannot find any information regarding ongoing incentives. Can you either direct me to the correct source of information, or confirm that LED lighting incentives for commercial AEP customers are not available in 2023?

    1. Hi Brenda – We don’t offer or coordinate any programs that would pick up a refrigerator. You could check with your local waste management company – perhaps they may even have a suggestion on where you could donate a functional refrigerator?

  11. I’m an AEP Ohio customer in Franklin county. If I use 15 kWh during peak hours vs 15 kWh during off peak hours how much do I save?

    1. Hi Timothy,

Our customer service team would be able to take a look at your account and give you an answer. Please contact them at 800-672-2231 or message them on Facebook or Twitter.

  12. With AEP on f I was clothes and use my dish washer will I be charged a lower rate? My electric supplier is still AEP I haven’t signed up for any suppliers

    1. Hello Tracy. Here are some great tips on saving energy. If you have questions about your specific rate, the customer solutions team can pull up your account and take a look. They can be reached at 800-672-2231.

  13. We need to replace our whole house heating and air unit. does Aep Ohio offer any kind of incentives for such a large purchase, sine we are trying to better our utility bills?

    1. Hello Angie,

We’re glad to hear that you are trying to be as energy efficient as possible, and we understand that such a large purchase is not always easy to make. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer any sort of incentives.

    1. Great question, Jan. Ceiling fans are designed to cool people, not rooms. If the room is unoccupied, we recommend turning off the ceiling fan to save energy.

  14. Based on above question, we assume there are no local utility rebates or state rebates for switching to a heat-pump water heater?

Are you able to clarify why some AEP regions have rebates and central Ohio does not? Additionally, we noticed suppliers in the Cleveland and Cincinnati do offer rebates.

    1. Hello Kristen, there is a heat pump rebate offer running through November 30, 2023, but I am not sure whether it includes water heaters. You may be able to find out more through the linked site. AEP Ohio does not serve Cleveland or Cincinnati, so we are unfamiliar with what suppliers in those areas may offer.

    1. Good question, Dave. Space heater models vary significantly. When purchasing a space heater, you should carefully review the product’s specifications and purchase one sized to fit the space in which it will be used. Bigger is not necessarily better, and would be inefficient in a smaller space than it’s designed for.
