From high above to under the ground, our crews work year-round to keep the power on and improve your service. In addition to their day-to-day tasks, our lineworkers are hard at work installing equipment to improve your electric service. Here’s a quick breakdown of just some of the work we’re doing this year.

2021 Improvements By The Numbers

  • Inspecting 7,800+ miles of power lines to find and fix issues before they become a problem.
  • Proactively replacing 5,700 electric poles that may be damaged due to age, weather or insects.
  • Rebuilding 75 miles of electric line throughout our service territory to make sure you have the most reliable service. 
  • Testing, repairing and replacing more than 500,000 feet of underground cable.
  • Adding new smart technology to 130+ circuits that automatically reroutes your power away from problems, like downed power lines. 
  • Trimming and clearing trees around power lines and equipment on a regular basis to help prevent power outages. To date, our forestry crews have trimmed more than 214,000 trees this year. 

This work is part of an ongoing plan to improve reliability across the state that began in 2019. Over the course of the five years (2019-2023), AEP Ohio will install nearly $2 billion in infrastructure improvements.

  1. I live in Newark and the power lines go thru my tree… I don’t know if it’s an issue but maybe something to look at… how awesome of you to give the tree branches to the zoo… thank you for all you do

      1. My Neighborhood in Delaware has alot of old overhead transformers. The power in our neighborhood, knock on wood, has went out since the end of June, even if for a few minutes about 3 times. When would a transformer be dated enough to upgrade some to keep power from going out so much. The seem to pop alot when there is power outages. I understand not every cases is a bad transformer.

  2. Thanks for all you guys do! You are all appreciated more than you know! Power lines run behind our house and after the heavy wind storm we had a few months ago, 3 consecutive poles are leaning towards the houses. Not sure who to contact. Thanks!

  3. I am in need of someone coming out to find my power line … I can’t find it with the trees and vines coming up around where the pole should be. I haven’t see this pole in at least 2 years. Thank you.

  4. Please tell me why it is not a problem! In the right of way behind my house in Worthington lies an 8 inch Sweetgum limb on the high AEP power line. Your customer service persons on three occasions visited the site and have notified us “that it is not a problem.” I need to know “why it is not a problem.” Recently I had the Russell Tree Co. give me an estimate as to what it would cost to remove that hazard. They said it was too dangerous and they would not remove it. They then contacted your representative who told them that “it was not a problem.” Please explain why.” I think I deserve an explanation.   5. i would love to have the It’s My Power App back.
    it is much more accurate for showing power consumption and what is using power in the home.
    please bring it back as i was using it to efficiently monitor and change power usage

    1. Hello John. Thank you for your note. Unfortunately the IT’S YOUR POWER program was offered through our energy efficiency program portfolio. All of these programs were discontinued in September 2020. If the program is offered again in the future, we will provide information on our website and through customer newsletters to inform you and other customers.

  6. I have a concern about our power, it has went out the last 2 Sundays now at 9 am, just off then back on in a few seconds. This was happening a couple years ago and turned out to be something to do with the hospitals generator going thru it’s weekly self test is what I was told. Don’t know how that would affect our power but anyway it’s happening again.
