Learning doesn’t stop once you cross the commencement stage, but for many adults with developmental disabilities, finding the right support to keep growing those skills can be a challenge post-grad.

That’s where the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio (DSACO) and its incredible Adult Literacy Ohio program come in.

DSACO is a champion for local families. Its literacy initiative helps individuals with Down Syndrome to navigate the world more independently, whether that means reading a bus schedule, ordering from a menu or applying for a job. Adult Literacy Ohio’s personal approach — personalized, one-on-one sessions with tutors and speech-language therapists — is changing Central Ohioans’ lives.

The AEP Ohio Foundation was honored to recently provide a $25,000 grant to support Adult Literacy Ohio.

“Literacy is a critical tool for success and confidence that can truly change lives,” said Julia Ivinskas, AEP Ohio director of customer experience. “We’re proud to support DSACO’s mission to ensure that every adult in Central Ohio has the opportunity to reach their full potential.”

Adult Literacy Ohio is located at 510 E. North Broadway, Ste. 401, Columbus, Ohio 43214.
