We know many in your area were impacted by the winter storm that hit last week — icy conditions brought down trees and power lines throughout the area. We truly appreciated your patience and understanding as we worked to get power restored to the hardest hit areas as quickly as we safely could.

After the storm hit, our crews quickly jumped into action to assess the damage to our equipment and determine the resources needed to make repairs. In hard to reach areas, we utilized drones and helicopters to get a better look at the damage caused by the storm. Our forestry team also removed downed trees and cleared the way for our lineworkers to restore power. Across the state, we replaced more than 120 poles and restrung over 1,800 spans of electric wire. In the Steubenville area alone, crews replaced 30 poles and over 250 spans of wire required repairs.

For those directly impacted by the storm, we know it wasn’t easy to be without power, especially with the cold temperatures. For those the storm spared, thank you for your words of encouragement. Our community is stronger together and we’re proud to be a part of yours.

    1. Hello Janet. Thanks for your question. Customers are only billed for the electricity used during the period. During a power outage, no electricity is used, so therefore no charges are incurred.

  1. I think for the severity of this past storm ,all the Linemen did an excellent job restoring all the areas power in a very sufficient time. A big THANK YOU to all who had a role in restoring our services.

  2. My power was only out for 24 hours,. So I was one of the lucky ones, nice work on getting everyone’s power restored AEP..and a big Thank you for mentioning the forestry teams, my Spouse & both of my Son’s are part of a
forestry team & they was out during the ice storm. Some people don’t understand the danger of the jobs that both Lineman & tree trimmers do.

  3. Retired utility worker. 24hrs. Day or night, 20 below or 95 so know what you people go through. Not appreciated enough anymore, so I say thank-you for willing to work in a tough job.

  4. Pkease top our trees near this line & we will then remove all of them. Our lines has been spliced so many times. When the power company topos trees in our area they always miss these ones. Please put on your work order to just top trees & throw them on the ground. We will clean up from there. Thanks Cynthia Fisher

    1. Hi Cynthia. Thanks for your note. I have passed it on to our forestry team and you should hear from someone soon. Have a nice weekend.

  5. We are thankful for linemen, that braved the elements and spent countless hours working to repair downed lines. Restoring power to many that were without power. You are some of our unsung heroes and are appreciated!!

  6. Thank you for your time and effort! Unfortunately me and my children had no where to go. And no money for a hotel room. We loss food and heat. For 4 days . Even though it was turned on a day earlier. I still appreciate you all

    1. Hello R. I’m so sorry to hear your family was affected by the storm and without food and heat for an extended time. During the outage, various warming shelters were opened across the region for customers affected by the power outage. This information is listed at AEPOhio.com/OutageMap. If you are unable to find a location near you, I would encourage you to reach out to your local fire or police department… they often can help find a warm shelter.

  7. We also really appreciate the tremendous job your workers did in adverse conditions. The first night without power it only went down to 26 degrees F, but it was headed for single digits the following night. We got our power back about 9:30 PM the second night (28 hours total) and were very thankful. We have livestock and it’s a lot more work caring for them with no power.
