We know many in your community were impacted by the winter storm that hit last week — icy conditions brought down trees and power lines throughout the area. We truly appreciated your patience and understanding as we worked to get your power restored as quickly as we safely could.

After the storm hit, our crews quickly jumped into action to assess the damage to our equipment and determine the resources needed to make repairs. In hard to reach areas, we utilized drones and helicopters to get a better look at the damage caused by the storm. Our forestry team also removed downed trees and cleared the way for our lineworkers to restore power. Across the state, we replaced more than 120 poles and restrung over 1,800 spans of electric wire.

For those directly impacted by the storm, we know it wasn’t easy to be without power, especially with the cold temperatures. For those the storm spared, thank you for your words of encouragement. Our community is stronger together and we’re proud to be a part of yours.

Below is a snapshot of the work completed in your area to get the power back up and running:

Athens Area

  • 5 broken poles replaced
  • 100 spans of wire restrung

Crooksville Area

  • 8 broken poles replaced
  • 100 spans of wire restrung

McConnelsville Area

  • 6 broken poles replaced
  • 200 spans of wire restrung

Lancaster Area

  • 10 broken poles replaced
  • 450 spans of wire restrung

  1. What was was done in the Gore area off of 93 North? Would be nice to show our little community how hard at work everyone was. Thank you for all your hard work both women and men!

    1. Hi David! I don’t have information about Gore specifically, but I know that Hocking County was one of our most hard-hit communities. We absolutely had a lot of crews in the area making repairs and working to get the power back on!

  2. You guys did a great job as always. We could not have got through the last week without AEP and ODOT both working long hours in miserable conditions.
    Thank you.

  3. It is wonderful having our power restored and we thank you. Kudos to the line crews and their unfailing willingness to brave storm and danger for us.

But, please could we have an honest reason for losing power. We lost power here in McConnelsville almost 4 hours BEFORE the storm even came close to hitting us. I do not believe that we lost power due to the storm. If we lost a sub station or something like I would understand. But to say that loss of power was all due to the storm is not correct in my opinion.

As a former lineman, I understand power.

Honestly, I believe that this is a direct result of AEP no longer producing power. We have become nothing but transmission. If we no longer produce, we will continue use more than what is transmitted. This is an issue that I am sure that the grid operators and professionals are completely aware of.

Would love to know what really happened prior to the storm.

    Appreciate the feedback.

    1. Hi Jeff. Thank you so much for the kind words and understanding. We know power outages are frustrating. I was able to locate your account from the email address provided, and there were a few outages affecting your area on February 3. One of the earlier outages (around 1:45 p.m.) was result of a tree falling on our lines from outside of the right-of-way.

  4. Thank you guys for all the hard work you do to keep our power going. It was very very cold those four days we were without power. I just couldn’t imagine having to be out there working in it day and night just was we could have heat and power. So once again THANK YOU SO VERY VERY MUCH

  5. My family and I thank you so much for working in those terrible conditions and getting our power back on. We all really appreciated the warm shower when it came back on. The dog is finally starting to come near us again. Thank you from your friends in Hocking County! 🙂

  6. Thank you for your outstanding service.

Our service was out from Thursday until Sunday and every time I called customer service for updates, the reps were very helpful and courteous. They were quick to answer my calls and worked hard to try and answer all my questions.

When the field techs came to remove the trees and repair the electric line they were very friendly, courteous and quickly fixed the problem.

I would say AEP earned an A+ in the way you handled a very difficult event.

    Thanks so much.

  7. All the workers hard work and dedication is absolutely incredible and appreciated. I’m curious, Hocking County repairs is not listed, why?
Thank you to all the workers!

    1. Hi Carol. Great question. Hocking County repairs would be included in the Lancaster, Crooksville and Athens areas listed above. There are many cities included with each area, so it would be extremely difficult to list all individually.

  8. I have always thought AEP crews as First Class Professionals. Always polite and friendly. I have seen how hard they perform their dangerous work to replace poles, transformers, and wires in all types of weather. They work diligently in unison like a fine tuned machine. AEP corporate managers can be proud of the men and women who represent the AEP name.

  9. Thanks for all that was done during the storm. We sincerely appreciate all your efforts and working through the miserable weather to get our power on.

    1. Hi Betty. We’re sorry to hear that the storm also affected your landline. Telephone poles and lines can also be torn down and damaged by falling trees and heavy ice. You would need to report this to the company you receive service through to ensure repairs are made.

  10. Thank you for the many days, of long hours, under very trying circumstances ,to restore our power in Hocking county.
All of you did an exceptional job!
Through the years, every time I have reported an outage you were there quickly.
Thank you for providing a great service!

  11. I was not happy when I logged on to report my power outage to see a snarky banner on your site that read” uh oh looks like your power is out” Really? Did not find it funny. Do you have an eight year old managing your site?

    1. Hi Lori. Thanks for reaching out. We apologize if this message seemed insensitive, we certainly did not intend to be. I will pass along your feedback to our web developers for consideration of updated language.

  12. Thank you so much for restoring the electricity. The efforts of all those who worked so hard are appreciated. We lost power on Thursday and it was restored on Monday. We had down lines so thank you for the extra work to replace those.

  13. Thank you for all your hard work. We kept you in our prayers knowing the sacrifice everyone made restoring our power. Were glad the power was restored without incident.
