During Ohio Power Company’s Week of Service, our team found even more ways to support the communities we call home. From July 26 to Aug. 1, Ohio Power employees volunteered across the state, helping families, supporting local nonprofits and tackling projects that will benefit communities long after the week ended.
Whether building furniture, serving meals or helping students prepare for a new school year, employees demonstrated that serving others extends far beyond the workplace.
Ohio Power partnered with Besa and the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio to assemble 10 dressers for local families in need. The nonprofit has a new mobile build program, which brings tools, materials and volunteer opportunities directly to workplaces. Once assembled, the furniture is delivered through the organization’s Columbus, Lancaster and Newark locations, often reaching families within days. Past support from the Ohio Power Company Foundation helped the Furniture Bank expand east to Newark, extending its reach to more families across central Ohio.
Hundreds of families gathered at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Center for a back-to-school celebration featuring free backpacks, school supplies, vaccines, community resources and family activities. Ohio Power volunteers, alongside members of AEP’s Hispanic Origin Latin American (HOLA) Employee Resource Group, helped distribute backpacks and school supplies to local students, ensuring they have the tools they need to begin the school year .
