With your A/C cranking in the summertime heat, your electric bill may be reflecting higher energy usage. Here are a few resources to help manage your usage and make your bill more predictable:
Enroll in Our Average Monthly Payment* (AMP) Plan
AMP spreads the cost of cooling and heating over the whole year by leveling out payments to account for seasonal spikes in usage. Your bill adjusts on a 12-month rolling average and changes only slightly each month, making payments more predictable.
- To sign up, visit AEPOhio.com/AMP and log into your account.
- Once logged in, you’ll see a detailed explanation of the payment plan and your personalized AMP amount.
- Check the box indicating that you accept the terms and click the Enroll now button.
*AMP is only applicable to AEP Ohio charges. If you participate in Ohio Choice and want to enroll in a budget plan for generation supply charges, please contact your generation provider.
Check Your Eligibility for Ohio’s Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP)
The Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP) helps eligible Ohioans manage their energy bills year-round. This plan helps make monthly payments more affordable and sets up an on-time and in-full payment plan that reduces your outstanding balance. Payments are based on a percentage of household income and are consistent throughout the year.
Ohioans with a gross annual income at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty guidelines that get their power from companies regulated by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio – like AEP Ohio – are eligible for the State of Ohio’s PIPP program.
More information on the PIPP program can be found by:
- Visiting the Ohio Development Services Agency website or calling 800.282.0880
- Visiting the PUCO website or calling 800.686.7826
Monitor Your Usage With the Energy Dashboard
Have you checked out your Energy Dashboard lately? It’s a free online tool that works with your electric meter to provide insights about your energy usage in 15-minute intervals. The information is shown in easy-to-understand charts and graphs to help you identify what uses the most energy in your home and suggests potential changes you can make to save on your monthly bill.
Using the Dashboard
- Log into your account.
- Complete the Home Energy Profile.
- This quick survey gathers important information to help break down and analyze your energy usage, including your home’s square footage, appliances used, how you cool and heat your home, the temperature your thermostat is set, and more.
- When the survey is complete, you’ll see Your Energy Use Breakdown. This chart details how much you spend monthly in up to 12 different categories — heating, cooling, water heating, lighting, electronics, oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, laundry, pool, electric vehicle and other. It also includes personalized tips on how you can save in each category.
Stay in the Know With Weekly Energy Reports and High Bill Alerts
If you have a smart meter, you can sign up to receive a weekly energy report or alerts when your bill is estimated to be higher than normal. The energy report includes a week-by-week comparison of your energy use, a bill projection, daily and hourly energy breakdowns and personalized tips.
High bill alerts are issued when your bill is projected to be 30% higher than the same time last year. You can also choose to receive notifications if your bill is expected to surpass a certain dollar amount. Manage your usage notification settings here.

I was amazed that I received an apology for my power being out for a short time the other night. I thank you for that consideration, when it could not have been avoided.
