Keeping the lights on is what we do every day. But during AEP’s Week of Service, our team found even more ways to support the communities we call home.
From July 26 to Aug. 1, AEP Ohio employees volunteered across the state, helping families, supporting local nonprofits and tackling projects that will benefit communities long after the week ended.
Whether we were building furniture, serving meals or helping students prepare for a new school year, our team showed that making a difference goes far beyond their day jobs.
One of the week’s largest projects brought together nearly 50 employees to assemble dressers for local families in need through a partnership with the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio. What started as boxes of parts became furniture that will help families build more comfortable homes.
We also helped more than 400 families get ready for the school year by distributing backpacks and school supplies at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Center in Columbus, giving students what they need to start the year with confidence.
“Thanks to everyone who helped make sure our children have what they need to thrive this school year,” Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther said on his Instagram account.
In Zanesville, volunteers spent time at Christ’s Table preparing food, serving meals and washing dishes. The organization serves thousands of meals each year to individuals and families facing food insecurity across Muskingum County.
“We were blessed by an incredible team from AEP. Associates traveled from communities all across Ohio to spend the day serving at Christ’s Table, and what a difference they made. Their willingness to give of their time and talents reminds us that when people come together with a shared purpose, amazing things happen,” Christ’s Table shared on Facebook.
Our team also put our skills to work on projects that will benefit communities for years to come. At the Allen County Fairgrounds, AEP Ohio lineworkers replaced aging power poles throughout the campground at no cost, helping improve electrical service for fairgrounds visitors and campers. The project received local attention for its positive impact on the community.
Our team also donated blood, cleaned up parks, hosted activities at local fairs and participated in other volunteer projects throughout our service territory as part of the Week of Service.
