The holiday season is upon us and our employees in northwest Ohio have been working to help those less fortunate, including donations to the following charitable efforts (among others).

Three Part Blessing

AEP Ohio’s customer service team was on hand to help with distribution, including lifting the boxes and carrying deliveries to recipients’ cars.

During a second-year event at the Bradfield Community Center in Lima, generosity arrived in threes: 1) a coat drive; 2) boxes full of food for Thanksgiving dinner; and 3) hot meals. More than 200 coats and hats went out the door to families in need, plus turkeys and hams and even toys and books. AEP Ohio’s customer service team was on hand to help with the distribution, including lifting the boxes and carrying deliveries to recipients’ cars.

“I would do something like this every day if I could. I just love giving back to the community and helping lead and organize events like this,” said Stacy Agler, a customer service representative in Lima. “Everyone was grateful and our help was appreciated. And when the kids received toys, their eyes just lit up. I’m thankful they had something to take away.”

Turkeys in Delphos

Though costs have been rising for the event, more than 100 local families were able to receive meals this year.

Work Scheduling Supervisor Heather Marquiss has lived in the Delphos area for most of her life and tries to do what she can to support her community.

“It’s a small town and we have a lot of elderly people and families who could use some help,” Heather said. “There’s just a lot of need in the community right now.”

This is the first year AEP Ohio has provided funding to Turkeys for Delphos. The charitable effort includes fundraising for cooking prep kits that include turkey, mashed potatoes, pie and other holiday treats. More than 100 local families received meal bags this year.

Heather was inspired by her grandmother – a longtime volunteer who puts in 40 hours a week at the Delphos Interfaith Thrift Shop – to step up and help.

“The families were extremely thankful for those meals. They really look forward to them,” Heather said. “I’m so glad we were able to give back to those who are less fortunate.”

We’re committed to supporting the passions of our employees who live and work in the area and are looking forward to continuing these efforts through the holiday season.
