For many kids, the school week brings reliable access to nutritious meals, but what happens after the final bell rings on Friday? Across Ohio, Children’s Hunger Alliance (CHA) has been working to answer that question for more than 50 years.

Since 1970, CHA has partnered with schools, childcare providers, afterschool programs and summer sites across all 88 counties to make sure kids have access to healthy food.

To help support that work, the AEP Ohio Foundation recently donated $25,000 to CHA’s Weekend Meals program. This donation will help provide students with meals through the weekend, so they can return to school on Monday nourished and ready to learn.

“Programs like these help make a meaningful difference for students and families,” said Shawn Cable, AEP Ohio’s manager district system supervisor for the Athens district and a CHA board member. “Working with Children’s Hunger Alliance is more than service — it’s purpose. There are not many things more important than putting food in the hands of a hungry child, and knowing AEP Ohio supports this lets me know I work for a company that cares.”

With a team of 50 professionals and regional offices in Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Toledo, CHA continues to grow its reach, partnering with more than 500 in-home childcare providers, roughly 250 afterschool programs, and approximately 150 summer meal sites statewide. AEP Ohio is proud to be one of the community partners helping to make that mission possible.
