Supporting the community has always been a priority for AEP Ohio. We know that while we work hard to keep the power on, our partners work tirelessly to provide food, shelter, education and critical services to our community. From the Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio to the Sandusky County Food Pantry, read more below about how we’re working to support communities throughout Ohio and how you can get involved, too.

Tri-State STEM+M Academy

Tri-State Stem+M Academy in Lawrence County works to prepare students for STEM+M careers that will allow them to find jobs here at home in their region.

Nearly 90 students attend the academy and spend their days working through problem-based group learning activities in a 16,000-foot warehouse. The challenge? While 60 percent of the warehouse is fully finished, the rest is not — meaning it lacks heating, air conditioning, insulation and other necessary safety protections. AEP Ohio is donating $15,000 to help the academy upgrade its classroom facilities.

Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio

Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio works to advocate for affordable housing in Athens County — bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. This community is hit especially hard with over 17% of households falling below the federal poverty level.

On top of the global pandemic and economic hardship, the cost of lumber is significantly higher than normal, making the cost to build homes even more expensive. AEP Ohio is donating $10,000 to support the construction of a home for an Athens County mother and her child, simultaneously helping Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio reach an exciting milestone: the 100th house they’ve built in the community.

Sandusky County Food Pantry

The Sandusky County Food Pantry works to provide healthy, well-balanced food items to local families in need — serving approximately 700 households with 14,000 meals per month.

While the food pantry hasn’t seen a surge in families coming to the pantry, it anticipates the need will grow as the pandemic continues and government assistance inevitably slows. AEP Ohio is donating $3,000 to help feed families in Sandusky County.

  1. We are located in Bucyrus, Ohio.
Looking for someone to remove a ham radio tower and someone to paint this house. also someone to build a roof over a kennel area. We are in our 70’s and these tasks would be too difficult for us to handle.

    1. Hi Kenneth. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to help with this. These jobs require the expertise of a licensed, professional contractor. Be sure to hire someone who will perform the job safely and thoroughly. Good luck to you.
