AEP Ohio is committed to improving the communities we serve. In the Canton area, that support included recent donations to a number of local organizations. Here are just a few:
American Red Cross: AEP Ohio donated $10,000 in support of emergency response needs at the Heartland, Stark and Muskingum Lakes American Red Cross. The organization, which covers Stark, Wayne, Ashland, Carroll, Holmes, Harrison and Tuscarawas counties, responds to every storm and helps communities in northern Ohio prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies. The donation will help offset the costs of training, equipment, response supplies, emergency funds for those affected, heating/cooling center support and other needs.
United Way: A $10,000 grant was presented to the United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties to help area residents. United Way funding goes toward certifications and training, essential needs (shelter, rent, utilities, clothing, etc.), the food pantry program and educational scholarships.
Green Local Schools: AEP Ohio supported the Smithville school district with a $5,000 grant for its STEM program (science, technology, engineering and math). The funds are going toward purchasing new robots, materials and programming for sixth- through eighth-grade classes.
Canton Rotary: AEP Ohio contributed $1,000 to the rotary’s fundraiser for building SARTA bus shelters in the City of Canton. The shelters will help protect riders from inclement weather all year long.
