AEP employees “took over” the Mid-Ohio Food Collective earlier this year, helping pack, sort and load food into boxes to fight hunger.

A total of 61 employees from AEP Ohio, AEP Transmission and AEP volunteered. Teams took on important tasks, including checking expiration dates, sanitizing donated items and sorting them into appropriate boxes for later distribution.

According to MOFC, AEP employees who volunteered for that day contributed a total of 166.5 hours, resulting in a $5,192 impact!

Ryan Knapp, director of safety and health at AEP Transmission, has been a steadfast volunteer with MOFC for the past few years, and actively encourages his coworkers to join him.

“It is just another way we can give back to the community and support our customers,” Knapp said. “Volunteering is also a part of our team’s annual goals within the customer service core principle, and honestly, it makes me feel good too!”

The need for food assistance has always been great, and according to MOFC, it’s growing. MOFC serves 20 counties across Ohio and donates 84 million pounds of food each year to 680 agencies, nonprofits, and organizations dedicated to helping those in need. Its on-site pantry supports 1,000 families every day. The organization distributed more than 53 million pounds of food in 2023 in Franklin County alone.

To meet the increasing needs of the community, MOFC needs 3,000 volunteer hours each week. Supporting MOFC aligns with AEP’s commitment to providing essential human services, such as housing and hunger relief. For decades, AEP Ohio has partnered with MOFC, donating millions of dollars and encouraging employees to volunteer their time. At AEP Ohio, volunteerism and philanthropic giving are core to our culture.
