A fast-moving severe thunder and windstorm made its way across most of Ohio on Tuesday, April 29, picking up intensity as it traveled east. A second storm brought more wind along with heavy rain on Thursday, May 1. Rainstorms continued Friday and into the weekend.

The storms caused extensive outages across Ohio with as many as 83,000 customers losing power at the peak. Eastern and southern parts of Ohio experienced the most damage. Power was restored to 95% of customers within 48 hours.

All told, nearly 1,200 employees mutual assistance crews and contractors worked almost 50,000 manhours to restore power. Thanks to all involved for prioritizing safety while working efficiently to restore power.

Damage statistics:

  • Broken poles: 100
  • Broken crossarms: 12
  • Spans of wire downed: 801
  • Spans of wire effected by trees but not downed: 72
  • Damaged transformers: 42
