AEP Ohio is doing its part to help address a national blood shortage. The Gahanna office hosted its first blood drive for 2025 in February, in partnership with the American Red Cross. More than 30 employees participated and donated a total of 30 units of blood, enough to potentially save more than 30 lives!

“This is a wonderful opportunity for us to contribute to a lifesaving mission by donating blood,” AEP Ohio’s Red Cross ambassador and business services account manager, Angie Engle, said. “Remember that there is a constant need for blood donations. Every few seconds, someone requires a unit of blood, and chances are high that we might need it ourselves someday.”In May, even more employees showed up to help with the blood shortage. Nearly 40 employees participated and donated a total of 42 units of blood. In 2024, AEP Ohio employees donated a total of 144 units of blood through four blood drives at the Gahanna building.

“The ongoing support from AEP employees showcases the strong sense of community and compassion that fuels our mission,” Engle said. “Every donation is vital, and our employees’ dedication to assisting those in need is truly remarkable. I am thankful to each individual for joining us in ensuring that blood is available for patients who depend on it for survival.”

There continues to be a significant need for blood donations. The American Red Cross has declared a critical need because severe winter weather and wildfires have stopped blood drives and donations in some parts of the country.

AEP Ohio thanks employees for supporting the American Red Cross in providing help to those who need it.

A third blood drive will be held in the Gahanna office in August and Engle hopes they’ll set a new record. Click here to find a blood drive near you.
