AEP Ohio will pay you $50 to recycle your old, working refrigerator or freezer and provide 3 LED light bulbs as an added bonus. We’ll even coordinate pick-up free of charge. Plus, replacing an inefficient old appliance can save you upwards of $150 a year in energy costs.

  1. I am having a new refrigerator brought in and need to get rid of my old one. How do I go about scheduling for someone to pick up the old one?

    1. Hi Phil. I’m with AEP Ohio but I’m told that the appliance recycling program recently returned to our Appalachian Power territory. You can view the information on the Appalachian Power website by typing “Appliance Recycling” into the search bar. The information about our appliance recycling program can also be accessed through the following link: To schedule a pick up, please call 1-888-277-0529.

  2. Can i schedule a refrigerator pickup? I am an AEP customer and my address is 786 Cross St, Newcomerstown Oh 43832

    1. Hey Alice. Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we’re temporarily suspending the appliance recycling program as a precaution to avoid spreading the virus. If you are interested in scheduling for a later date, we can add you to a waitlist and you will be contacted once the program resumes scheduling appointments. Go here for more info:

  4. What does AEP Ohio do with the old refrigerators?
Also, I have an old fridge I’d like for AEP Ohio to recycle, but I’d like to keep the doors because they have years’ worth of stickers from my travels on them. Is that possible?

    1. Very cool, Travis! And good questions. I’d recommend calling our appliance recycling program experts here: 866-899-9862. Have a great day!

  5. I have an old refrigerator I need gone that still works but out in driveway…its 1 of 3 to be replaced….
    I’m in grand rapids oh.

    1. Hi Kevin. Unfortunately, our appliance recycling program has been suspended as a result of the coronavirus and to help prevent its spread. Check back later for any updates on when it might resume. I apologize to have to share this news … I wish I had more help to offer!

    1. I do not, Keith, but the good news is we have resumed pickups and are slowly working our way through the backlog of customers who signed up on the waitlist. So hopefully it won’t be too much longer. Thank you for staying patient!

    1. Hi Alan. Unfortunately, the recycling program is on hold. We are working our way through customers who were on the wait list but right now there are no plans to resume it beyond that. I am very sorry!

  6. Hi! We have been on the COVID wait list for a while now and I saw above where AEP Is “working our way through customers who were on the wait list”.

Is there a way to find out where we are on the wait list now? The phone number (866) 899-9862 drops the call each time dialed.

    Please advise and thank you.

    1. Maryann, I believe someone from our energy efficient team just emailed you about this. Sorry for the delay!

  7. I have requested to be put on the list to recycle our refrigerator through your website many months ago as well as called your phone number. Want to be sure we are on your list and wondered how many more weeks/months until we might be scheduled for pick up?

    Thank you.

    1. Hi Nancy. I passed your info along to our energy efficiency team and I’m told they already talked to you — your pickup is scheduled for Monday, August 17. Thanks for your patience!

  8. Is this recycling pick up available in Indiana? I have a refrigerator I need picked up. There is a $50 credit?

    1. Hi Carol. I apologize but I don’t know the latest info on an appliance recycling program for Indiana Michigan Power. I’d recommend giving them a call at 800-311-4634. Good luck!

    1. Unfortunately, no, Larry. This program was suspended during COVID-19 and we don’t have any plans to resume it. I’m sorry.

  9. I am having the same issue, unable to get through on the listed number. Can some one please inform me as to the present status so I know what to do with my old fridge? Thank you.
